"Preliminary Review Supplementary Measures Completed" Ministry of Science and ICT Opens 110 Additional AI Training Data Types

[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] The Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Information Society Agency (NIA) announced that after opening 60 out of a total of 170 types of data on the 18th, they have completed quality verification and preliminary review supplementation measures for AI training data, and will sequentially open 110 types of AI training data starting from the 25th.

The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to open 44 of the 110 data types on the AI integrated platform ‘AI Hub’ from the 25th to the 27th. The data being opened this time includes Korean lecture audio, Donguibogam herbal images, and household waste images. Subsequently, when 66 types of data including healthcare data are opened on the 30th, the opening of all 170 types of data built last year will be completed.

After opening the data, the Ministry of Science and ICT will actively reflect user requirements through a focused improvement period involving user participation until September, aiming to provide better data. They will continuously manage and improve data quality to ensure that AI innovation outcomes can be generated.

Previously, the Ministry of Science and ICT and NIA announced on the 18th that 170 types of AI training data would be sequentially opened through AI Hub. The AI training data construction project, promoted as part of the ‘Data Dam’ construction, a major project of the Digital New Deal, is a project in which the government directly builds large-scale data necessary to improve AI performance and makes it available for anyone to use.

This opening will significantly increase the amount of training data available for use by the AI industry. By field, there are 170 types (480 million cases) in 8 fields: Voice and Natural Language (39 types including Korean dialects), Healthcare (32 types including cancer diagnosis images), Autonomous Driving (21 types including road driving videos), Vision (15 types including sports motion videos), Land and Environment (12 types including forest species images), Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (14 types including livestock behavior videos), Safety (19 types including aging facility images), and Others (18 types including fashion product images).
