The Seoul Regional Office of Patriots and Veterans Affairs (Director Lee Sungchun) announced that on June 25, it aired a special video for the "Remember 1952 ONlympic" campaign on its official YouTube channel.
This video is part of a campaign jointly organized by the Seoul Regional Office of Patriots and Veterans Affairs and the non-profit organization Dodream Sports. The campaign, named "Remember 1952 ONlympic," aims to commemorate the 71st anniversary of the Korean War and the 69th anniversary of the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. It is a campaign to honor both national defense heroes and sports heroes.
The name "ONlympic" was chosen because six national athletes re-enact six sports (marathon, cycling, boxing, wrestling, weightlifting, and equestrian) featured at the Helsinki Olympics, both online and offline. The program encourages public participation through online social media platforms.
The video aired on the 25th focused on the year 1952. That year was not only marked by intense battles such as the Battle of the Ridge, which was later adapted into a film, but it was also the year the Helsinki Olympics took place. The video delivers a moving narrative of hope and courage blossoming amid devastation, depicting how, during the fierce wartime period, a team of 43 athletes, funded by donations from citizens and the United Nations, went on to win medals at the Helsinki Olympics.
An official stated, "The Remember 1952 ONlympic campaign will begin with the Chuncheon Battle Marathon event on June 19, featuring former national gold medalist Hwang Youngjo, and will continue as a participatory event both online and offline." The official added, "We plan to use social media to help the public remember the year 1952 more vividly."
Meanwhile, the Remember 1952 ONlympic social media participation event invites people to post on Instagram with the hashtags #리멤버1952온림픽 and #온림픽 for a chance to win a variety of prizes, including Chilsung Cider Candy, through a raffle. More details can be found on the Seoul Regional Office of Patriots and Veterans Affairs YouTube channel and other official platforms.
