"Providing Signal Time by Seconds" Real-Time Traffic Information for Jeju Island on KT Wonnaebi

[Asia Economy Reporter Joselgina] KT announced on the 25th that its navigation application, One Navi, will enable users to check accurate real-time traffic information at 909 intersections within Jeju provided by the Jeju Traffic Information Center.

This is the result of digitalizing approximately 300 km of major roads in Jeju based on the next-generation traffic system (C-ITS) completed by KT last December. It is the first application among smartphone navigation apps, providing real-time information such as ▲current signal of the forward traffic light ▲remaining time of the current signal in seconds ▲next signal information guidance.

KT has released the information secured through the Jeju C-ITS demonstration project in the form of an Open API. Subsequently, it will be provided as public data for traffic safety in an open format to all navigation service providers.

According to KT, after the establishment of Jeju C-ITS, 83.1% of drivers evaluated that it helped reduce traffic accidents and improve driving safety. Accordingly, KT plans to increase the number of intersections applied within Jeju for the signal change service and gradually expand the application targets nationwide through consultations with local governments. Furthermore, KT decided to utilize traffic light signal change information in route generation algorithms to improve the accuracy of estimated arrival times.

Choi Kang-rim, Head of KT AI Mobility Business Division (Executive Director), said, “Through the application of the new service, we hope One Navi will contribute to safe driving not only for Jeju residents but also for tourists visiting Jeju,” adding, “As a digital platform company, KT will continue to introduce mobility services that realize national happiness by minimizing social losses caused by traffic accidents through continuous digital innovation in the traffic sector.”
