Industrial Digital Transformation Alliance Inauguration Ceremony... Over 100 Projects to be Promoted Next Year

[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] More than 100 digital transformation tasks will be intensively promoted by the private sector by next year in 10 major industries including future cars, shipbuilding, and machinery. A comprehensive support center to assist digital transformation collaboration between companies will also be opened.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held the 'Industrial Digital Transformation Alliance' inauguration ceremony on the 24th at the Conrad Hotel in Yeouido, Seoul.

The Industrial Digital Transformation Alliance is an industry-academia-research consortium that provides common technologies and standards to help companies easily access digital transformation and establishes digital transformation directions by industry.

It was first launched last year focusing on six fields including future cars, home appliances & electronics, and shipbuilding, and this year it has been expanded and reorganized into 10 fields including machinery & robots, root materials, and energy. About 170 cooperatives, organizations, institutions, companies, and universities participate.

The Digital Transformation Alliance plans to discover and support more than 60 digital transformation tasks this year and over 100 by next year in areas such as production optimization, product intelligence, and service advancement.

For example, the three major shipbuilders, equipment suppliers, and shipping companies will undertake digital transformation projects to solve common problems such as intensified competition from countries like China and the decline in added value of ship manufacturing. Specifically, they plan to promote the 'Smart Ship Data Platform Project,' which creates new business models such as predictive maintenance of ship parts and remote optimal navigation support by utilizing digital technologies like ship operation and control data.

On the same day, the Industrial Digital Transformation Collaboration Support Center (iDX Center) opening ceremony was held. The iDX Center plays a comprehensive support role for companies lacking accessibility to strategies, companies & technologies, and manpower related to digital transformation. It develops and provides common technologies and standards related to digital transformation and offers a testbed to identify problem-solving directions by integrating various digital technologies.

Additionally, it operates the 'Industrial DX Caravan,' which visits regions and industrial complexes directly, runs an integrated consulting window for industrial digital transformation, and provides matching services for related companies and technologies. It will also train 500 specialized personnel related to digital transformation.

Moon Seung-wook, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, said, "Based on the world-class manufacturing base such as automobiles and semiconductors, ICT infrastructure like 5G, and the united capabilities of the people and entrepreneurs, we will be able to leap forward as a leading country in the digital era industry."
