[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] Warren Buffett, chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, is stepping down as trustee of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
On the 23rd (local time), Buffett stated in a press release, as reported by Bloomberg News, "I intend to step down as trustee of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, just as I have from other companies except Berkshire Hathaway."
He said, "My goals are 100% aligned with the foundation," and added that he no longer needs to be involved in the management of the Gates Foundation.
Buffett also announced plans to donate $4.1 billion (approximately 4.7 trillion KRW) to the Gates Foundation.
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation was established in 2000 by Microsoft (MS) co-founder Bill Gates and his wife Melinda. By 2019, it had donated $55 billion (approximately 62.5 trillion KRW), making it one of the most influential charitable organizations worldwide.
Although Bill and Melinda Gates agreed to divorce on the 3rd of last month, they have decided to continue the Gates Foundation.
