[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] Samsung Display has officially announced in-house COVID-19 vaccinations for its employees.
According to industry sources on the 23rd, the COVID-19 Prevention Task Force (TF) operated by Samsung Display stated in an internal notice that "we have consulted with the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency regarding 'in-house vaccinations' for employees," and "employees currently employed can receive vaccinations on-site if they wish." Detailed regulations and future schedules related to the vaccination will be announced again on the 24th.
Earlier this month, the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency sent official letters to companies through local employment and labor offices, promoting in-house vaccinations through workplace-affiliated clinics. Accordingly, some companies reviewed plans to use workplace-affiliated clinics for vaccinations. Samsung Display is the first confirmed company to officially formalize in-house vaccinations.
As a result, other Samsung affiliates that currently have workplace-affiliated clinics capable of administering vaccinations are increasingly likely to implement in-house vaccinations. It was confirmed that Gangbuk Samsung Hospital has been hiring double-digit part-time nurses since the 11th to handle vaccination duties at workplace-affiliated clinics located in Samsung Electronics’ Suwon, Giheung, Hwaseong, Pyeongtaek, Cheonan, and Onyang sites. Other affiliates such as Samsung SDI have also posted job openings for contract or part-time nurses.
Additionally, LG Display has been recruiting contract nursing staff to work at its Seoul, Paju, and Gumi sites since the 14th. The Hyundai Motor Group is also expected to conduct first-dose vaccinations from late July to early August at three domestic Hyundai Motor plants, three Kia domestic plants, and Hyundai Steel’s Incheon and Pohang plants, as reported.
