[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Lee Jun-seok, leader of the People Power Party, said on the 23rd that he "cannot understand why the leader of a political party would make statements close to conspiracy theories," in response to Song Young-gil, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, attributing the source of the Yoon Seok-yeol X-file to the opposition party.
After visiting the youth employment and startup center ‘The Bigger Tomorrow Center’ in Jeju City that afternoon, Lee told reporters, "I don’t know when exactly that document was created, but if you want to make such claims, you need to specify when, where, who, and why in order to understand the reality," adding, "If you want to avoid irresponsible claims, you should speak according to the five Ws and one H."
Earlier that morning, Song appeared on TBS Radio’s ‘Kim Eo-jun’s News Factory’ and responded "Yes" to the question, "Do you think the X-file on Yoon Seok-yeol was created by the opposition party rather than the Democratic Party?" He also said, in response to the question, "Is the X-file a result of a fight between the mainstream and non-mainstream factions of the opposition party?" that "Candidate Hong Joon-pyo will likely join the People Power Party, and he would know best."
On the broadcast, Song also said, "Former Prosecutor General Yoon is someone who intends to become president," and added, "Shouldn’t the investigation be even more thorough than the one conducted on former Minister Cho Kuk’s wife and family?"
Regarding this, Lee said, "It is understandable that Leader Song would say that, but that is when you believe former Prosecutor General Yoon had issues that would provoke public outrage like the family of former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk," adding, "You cannot approach it with a similar investigation method if there is no problem." He continued, "If Leader Song knows something, it would be better to just say it."
Additionally, concerning former People Power Party emergency committee chairman Kim Jong-in’s criticism of the public official qualification exam, Lee said, "The qualification exam has high public support, but there is no concrete plan on how it will be implemented within the party," and added, "It is unclear exactly which parts are being opposed."
