[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 23rd that it will invest 220 million KRW to promote a project to improve the working environment for workers such as security guards and cleaners in apartment complexes with 30 or more households.

The city will provide up to 5 million KRW per location for purchasing equipment such as installing air conditioners in security offices, or for facility improvements such as wallpaper and flooring replacement, and structural repairs. In particular, priority support will be given to small complexes with 30 to less than 150 households when installing cooling and heating devices such as air conditioners.

However, rental housing, apartment complexes designated as maintenance zones under the "Urban and Residential Environment Improvement Act" and approved for association establishment, and apartment complexes approved for association establishment under the "Special Act on the Maintenance of Vacant Houses and Small-scale Housing" are excluded from support.

Complexes wishing to participate can submit an application to the Bucheon City Apartment Housing Division from the 1st to the 9th of next month, and support eligibility will be determined through a review by the Apartment Housing Support Review Committee.

For more details, please check the Bucheon City website or the Apartment Housing Information Sharing Center (http://apt.bucheon.go.kr).

A Bucheon City official stated, "We will continue to make efforts to improve awareness and promote human rights for apartment complex workers, including changing the title of security guards."
