Prosecutor General: "Swiftly Resolve Long-Unsolved Cases Before Personnel Changes"

[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] The Supreme Prosecutors' Office has ordered local prosecutors' offices to expedite the handling of long-unsolved cases.

On the 23rd, the Supreme Prosecutors' Office announced that as part of its efforts to become a "trusted prosecution service, people-centered prosecution," it instructed local prosecutors' offices to promptly resolve long-unsolved cases before the personnel reshuffle in the second half of the year.

Although the number of long-unsolved cases has somewhat decreased due to the investigation authority adjustment that began this year, case processing has been sluggish due to factors such as the spread of COVID-19. In response, the Supreme Prosecutors' Office emphasized that excessively prolonged investigations can lead to distrust in the prosecution and cause mental distress and litigation cost burdens to the parties involved, urging local prosecutors' offices to handle long-unsolved cases as quickly as possible before the personnel changes in the second half of the year.

Additionally, outstanding cases of long-unsolved case handling will be actively reflected in the selection of excellent work cases in the criminal division.
