Police Decide No Charges in Reinvestigation of Yoon Seok-yeol's Mother-in-Law Allegations... Case Not Prosecuted

[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] The police have concluded a reinvestigation into fraud allegations against Choi Mo (75), the mother-in-law of former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol, with a decision of 'no charges.'

According to the police on the 23rd, the Anti-Corruption and Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency conducted a reinvestigation into Choi's alleged forgery of private documents and fraud, and on the 11th, decided not to prosecute.

Choi was suspected of submitting a forged bankbook balance certificate worth 35 billion KRW during the purchase of land in Dochon-dong, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi Province in 2013, and embezzling stocks held in trust to take over a columbarium business.

The police received a complaint in January last year and forwarded the case to the prosecution in December of the same year with a recommendation not to indict. However, after the prosecution requested supplementary investigation in January this year, the police reviewed the complaint again. Due to the adjustment of investigative authority between the prosecution and police, the police now decide not to prosecute cases with a non-prosecution opinion starting this year.

The police reportedly treated some charges such as forgery of private documents as 'no prosecution rights' since trials are ongoing, and judged other matters as 'no charges.'
