Chungnam Supports Early Retirement for 22,000 Old Diesel Vehicles

[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Chungnam Province announced on the 23rd that it will promote an early retirement support project for 22,199 old vehicles with emission grade 5 this year.

The total budget allocated for the early retirement support project is 35.5 billion KRW. Among this, 29.3 billion KRW (83% of the total) has already been assigned to 13,908 vehicles eligible for early retirement, and 8,639 vehicles have already been scrapped early. Additional announcements will be made on the websites of each city and county where remaining quotas are available.

The early retirement support targets are diesel vehicles with emission grade 5 that have been registered for more than six months in air quality management zones or application areas, as well as three types of road construction machinery?dump trucks, concrete mixer trucks, and concrete pump trucks?manufactured before 2005 under the emission standards.

Applications for support can be made by owners who have owned the vehicle for at least six months before the subsidy application date and whose vehicles have not been equipped with emission reduction devices or converted to low-emission engines through government or local government support.

Along with the early retirement project, the province is concurrently implementing projects such as attaching emission reduction devices to 8,085 registered vehicles, replacing engines in 438 construction machines, and supporting the purchase of 929 new LPG cargo trucks (1 ton).

Meanwhile, since 2016, Chungnam has been promoting the early retirement support project for old diesel vehicles and has scrapped 38,266 vehicles to date. Through this, the province is estimated to have reduced fine dust (PM2.5) by 527.6 tons.
