[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] Hanwha Defense announced on the 23rd that it will participate in the '2021 Korea Defense Parts and Equipment Expo' held at the Changwon Convention Center in Gyeongnam until the 25th, showcasing domestically produced products such as surface-to-air guided missiles.

This exhibition is held under the theme 'K-Defense, Opening the Future' with the purpose of promoting the development of domestic defense parts, fostering small and medium-sized enterprises, and supporting exports. Hanwha Defense will introduce the 'Cheonma' short-range surface-to-air guided missile and the 'Biho Combined' 30mm self-propelled anti-aircraft gun as key domestically produced parts.

Cheonma is Korea's first short-range surface-to-air guided missile system, deployed in actual service since 1999. It serves as an air defense network responding to enemy low-altitude air infiltration using complex mountainous terrain. Starting this year, some components previously imported from overseas, such as power supply units and discontinued parts, have been 100% domestically produced.

Biho Combined is an anti-aircraft weapon system combining a 30mm self-propelled anti-aircraft gun and the portable surface-to-air guided missile 'Shingung.' It intercepts enemy aircraft or helicopters infiltrating at low altitude. In the future, components such as the turbo engine, which is the power supply unit, are expected to be domestically produced.

Hanwha Defense also plans to introduce the latest defense equipment newly mass-produced, including the 120mm self-propelled mortar and the new vehicle-type chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear reconnaissance vehicle. Son Jae-il, CEO of Hanwha Defense, said, "As a leading domestic defense company, we will take the lead in domesticating parts and improving equipment performance to contribute to strengthening military power," adding, "We will do our best to strengthen win-win cooperation with small and medium-sized partner companies to develop the national defense industry and the regional economy."
