Ministry of SMEs and Startups - Korea Federation of SMEs Selects 'Proud Small Business Owners' for Q2 2021
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] The Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Korea Federation of SMEs selected Moon Seong-ho, CEO of Munchang, and Jeong Jung-gyo, CEO of Fresh Easy, as the "Proud Small Business Owners" for the second quarter of this year on the 23rd.
The "Proud Small Business Owner" award is a system established by the Korea Federation of SMEs and the Ministry of SMEs and Startups to discover and reward outstanding entrepreneurs who have contributed to national industrial development through management rationalization, export increase, technology development, and more, aiming to promote exemplary small business owners.
Since its founding in 1992, Munchang has manufactured various water storage facilities related to water supply using water tank manufacturing technology based on 63 patents and certifications. CEO Moon set the vision of becoming a "Top-tier Quality Company" and achieved consecutive wins of the Korea Innovation Award for 10 years from 2011 to 2020, as well as induction into the Korea Standards Association Hall of Fame.
They are leading the distribution of stainless steel seismic isolation water tanks, having developed the world's first stainless steel seismic isolation water tank and being designated as an excellent product for public procurement. CEO Moon also launched the Daegu Gyeongbuk Quality Management Research Association and, as its president, is working to revitalize quality management activities among local companies.
Fresh Easy is an innovative startup in the domestic food industry that introduced meal kits to the market, leading the growth of the domestic home meal replacement (HMR) market by using over 90% domestic agricultural products, thereby contributing to increasing farmers' income and the development of the domestic food industry.
In October last year, Fresh Easy was selected as the 19th "Caring Company" by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, the first startup to receive this honor, and is currently conducting a meal kit development project aimed at coexistence with small business owners by helping the digital transformation of "Baeknyeon Gage" (century-old stores). Along with the K-food wave, it plans to export to 10 countries this year.
In its sixth year since establishment, Fresh Easy has risen to become the leading company with about 63% market share in the domestic meal kit market. More than 50% of its total employees are young people (under 34 years old), and it aims to create about 1,000 jobs within this year.
