[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] The Ministry of Justice will hold a Prosecutor Personnel Committee meeting today (24th) ahead of the mid-level prosecutor personnel reshuffle to deliberate on the personnel criteria and principles.
The Ministry of Justice plans to hold a closed Prosecutor Personnel Committee meeting at 2 p.m. at the Government Gwacheon Complex to review promotions and transfers of mid-level prosecutors.
Minister of Justice Park Beom-gye predicted that this mid-level personnel reshuffle will be "the largest ever." The first reshuffle conducted earlier this year after Minister Park took office was minor, and with the organizational restructuring, this reshuffle is expected to bring a significant overhaul to the prosecution organization.
On the morning of the 21st, Minister Park explained, "This reshuffle will involve promotions and transfers for almost all positions at the senior prosecutor level."
Particular attention is focused on whether the heads of major power-related investigation teams will be replaced.
Notable figures include Byun Pil-geon, Chief of the Criminal Division 1 at Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, who is investigating the Blue House-related planned investigation allegations; Lee Jeong-seop, Chief of the Criminal Division 3 at Suwon District Prosecutors' Office, who handled the illegal departure ban case involving Kim Hak-ui; and Lee Sang-hyun, Chief of the Criminal Division 5 at Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office, who investigated the alleged manipulation of the economic feasibility evaluation of the Wolseong nuclear power plant.
Attention is also on the personnel movements of prosecutors who investigated former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk's family corruption allegations, as well as so-called 'Yoon Seok-yeol line' special prosecutors.
The appointments are expected to be finalized as early as this week or by early next week at the latest, with the appointment date set after the Cabinet meeting on the 29th.
