[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, is conducting safety inspections targeting disaster-prone areas and large construction sites ahead of the upcoming rainy season.
On the 22nd, according to the county, the inspection team led by Vice Governor Kwon Yang-geun visited sites with steep slopes and other workplaces to urge accident prevention and diligent construction.
The inspection team conducted disaster safety accident prevention checks at the Donguibogam Village steep slopes and various national and local road construction sites.
In particular, until October, a joint safety inspection and a comprehensive survey to identify areas requiring management will be carried out targeting 162 steep slopes within the region.
The county is conducting a full inspection of steep slopes, including natural or artificial (retaining walls and terraces) slopes, to prevent safety accidents especially vulnerable during the rainy season. Additionally, a survey to identify steep slopes requiring management and to check their current status will be conducted simultaneously.
The main inspection items include checking for cracks, ground subsidence, erosion, and rockfall occurrences. The condition of drainage facilities, rockfall prevention nets, and repair or reinforcement of rockfall prevention measures will also be inspected.
The inspection will be carried out using a safety checklist, and if risk factors are deemed significant, disaster risk assessments and detailed safety diagnoses will be conducted utilizing private experts.
If issues identified during the inspection can be corrected on-site, immediate action will be taken, and for matters requiring maintenance, projects will be promoted before the full onset of the rainy season.
Vice Governor Kwon, who visited the site that day, emphasized, “The county has established and operates a 24-hour situation reporting system during the rainy season steep slope safety management period. We will do our best in safety management by conducting daily surveillance activities targeting management areas whenever weather warnings are issued.”
