[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] A symposium on the theme of "Current Status and Industrialization Strategies of Export-Oriented Foods Using Wild Mushrooms" was held on the 18th in Jangheung-gun (Governor Jeong Jong-sun), the main production area of shiitake mushrooms, a major domestic wild mushroom.
According to the county on the 22nd, the symposium was co-hosted by the Jangheung-gun Mushroom Industry Research Institute, Day & Bio Co., Ltd., and Imsil Cheese & Food Research Institute, and organized by the Korean Society of Food Preservation and Distribution.
The symposium was attended by Jeong Jong-sun, Governor of Jangheung-gun, Jeong Moon-cheol, President of the Korean Society of Food Preservation and Distribution, and over 50 food industry experts, and was broadcast live online.
The first session (chairman Professor Hwang Kwon-taek of Nambu University) featured presentations on the current status of wild mushroom materials (Yurim, Researcher at the National Institute of Forest Science), processed mushroom foods and market prospects (Kim Seung-joo, CEO of Day & Bio), and enhancing the utilization of wild mushrooms using fermentation technology (Dr. Park Kyung-wook, Suncheon Biohealthcare Research Center).
The second session (chairman Professor Kim Jung-beom of Suncheon National University) included presentations on the domestic and international mushroom food market status and industrialization strategies (Dr. Bae Dong-hyuk, Jeonnam Natural Resources Research Center), development of export-strategic mushroom processed foods for Southeast Asia (Dr. Kang Kyung-yoon, Suncheon Biohealthcare Research Center), and development plans for fungi and the mushroom industry (Dr. Kim Gyeong-je, Jangheung-gun Mushroom Industry Research Institute).
The third session (chairman Professor Lee Won-young of Kyungpook National University) held an in-depth discussion on the development and export-industrialization strategies of domestic wild mushrooms.
In his welcoming remarks, Jeong Jong-sun, Governor of Jangheung-gun, said, "It is necessary to expand sustainable growth engines and create new income sources for our county's shiitake mushrooms," adding, "We will actively reflect wild mushrooms in the recently selected largest county public project, the Rural Agreement Project, to enhance added value."
Meanwhile, the Jangheung-gun Mushroom Industry Research Institute is fostering various wild mushrooms such as Poria, wood ear mushrooms, and needle mushrooms, in addition to the local specialty shiitake mushrooms, as a resident income project by discovering and distributing them.
