[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jin-ho] Woori Financial Group announced on the 22nd that it will carry out a “Love Blood Donation Campaign” involving all employees across the group to respond to the serious blood shortage crisis that may occur in national emergency situations such as disasters and large-scale accidents due to a sharp decline in blood reserves.

According to the Korean Red Cross, due to the prolonged impact of COVID-19, the domestic blood reserves have sharply decreased, and as of December 16 last year, the appropriate blood reserve level was only half of the five-day supply.

On the first day of the campaign, Woori Financial Group Chairman Sohn Tae-seung, Woori Bank President Kwon Kwang-seok, and Woori Bank Labor Union Chairman Park Pil-jun personally visited the blood donation bus installed in the Woori Bank headquarters parking lot to encourage employees who voluntarily participated in blood donation to overcome the COVID-19 crisis. Chairman Sohn said, “I hope that the voluntary participation of employees in blood donation will help to some extent in solving the blood supply problem.”

Now in its 16th year, the Love Blood Donation Campaign has been held regularly every year since signing a blood donation agreement with the Korean Red Cross in 2006. Especially this year, all employees across the group voluntarily participated in the campaign to support blood supply, which is struggling to maintain appropriate blood reserves, and to spread an ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) corporate culture, adding greater significance to the campaign.

The Love Blood Donation Campaign will run from today until the 30th of next month. Woori Financial Group employees will voluntarily donate blood by visiting blood donation centers near their offices and branches and will donate their blood donation certificates. The donated certificates will be used to help vulnerable pediatric patients suffering from rare and intractable diseases.
