A contest showcasing program participation experiences of ‘lifelong education students’ preparing for their second act in life was held at Dong-Eui Science University.
Dong-Eui Science University (President Kim Young-do), Future Lifelong Education Project Group (Director Kim Tae-kyung) held the ‘National Junior College LiFE Project Current Student Contest Awards Ceremony’ on the 12th at the university main building president’s office.
Hosted by the Ministry of Education and the National Institute for Lifelong Education and organized by the National Junior College Education LiFE Project Group Council, this competition was established to discover excellent cases of the LiFE project and to share and spread achievements.
LiFE project students captured their college life, educational environment, various program participation reviews, and achievement cases in written or video content.
This contest, held for students from seven participating universities in the National Junior College Education LiFE Project, selected 24 winning entries through judging by external experts.
Winners received plaques and prizes, and awards were given individually at each participating university.
Among them, at Dong-Eui Science University, Jeong Haeng-sim (72), Department of Brewing and Fermentation Technology 2, won the gold prize with a neatly expressed reflection on starting college life late at the age of seventy under the theme “Isn’t it joyful to learn? Life begins at seventy.”
Also, Kwon Yeon-jin (44), Department of Real Estate Shared Business 2, and Lee Eun-joo (52), Department of Social Welfare and Care Services 1, received bronze prizes.
In addition, six people including Si Young-hee (61), Department of Healthcare Management 2, received encouragement awards.
Gold prize winner Jeong, despite being the oldest awardee, received high praise for sincerely portraying the endless challenges and passion for learning of the elderly generation designing their second act in life as a Makgeolli expert.
Jeong Haeng-sim said, “Just attending college at an advanced age felt like a dream, and I am deeply moved to have won a major prize in a national contest,” adding, “I am grateful to my family and university for supporting my enrollment, and I want to widely share the message that it is never too late to start something.”
Director Kim Tae-kyung of the project group said, “The good results in this contest were possible because of the enthusiasm of senior learners not only for university education but also for planning their second act in life,” and added, “We will continue to contribute to spreading a lifelong learning culture through customized education that meets the thirst for learning.”
The ‘University Lifelong Education System Support Project (LiFE),’ jointly hosted by the Ministry of Education and the National Institute for Lifelong Education, is a project that supports universities in autonomously establishing a lifelong education system friendly to adult learners.
Dong-Eui Science University was recently selected as a ‘continuing support university’ in the mid-term evaluation, securing a stable foundation for the project’s implementation until 2023 with four departments in the Future Convergence Division: Real Estate Shared Business, Social Welfare and Care Services, Brewing and Fermentation Technology, and Healthcare Management.
