Gangwon Police to Intensify Crackdown on Personal Mobility Device Violations Starting July

Focused Crackdown on Not Wearing Safety Helmets and License Revocation for Drunk Driving

[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] The Gangwon Provincial Police Agency will intensively crack down on traffic violations by users of personal mobility devices such as 'electric kickboards' in urban areas, including parks and university districts, starting in July.

According to the Gangwon Provincial Police Agency on the 22nd, the crackdown targets violations such as 'not wearing a helmet,' 'drunk or unlicensed driving,' and 'exceeding passenger capacity' when using single-person mobility devices like electric kickboards, electric two-wheeled balance vehicles, and electric bicycles.

In particular, if caught driving under the influence, according to the revised Road Traffic Act effective May 13, offenders will face a fine of 100,000 won (130,000 won if refusing measurement) and additionally, their automobile driver's license will be suspended or revoked.

Meanwhile, the Gangwon Police have designated this month as a period for intensive promotion and guidance on the revised Road Traffic Act, focusing on educating the public about the legal amendments and traffic violation prevention until the end of the month.
