Seoul City Supports Energy-Vulnerable Groups with Air Conditioners in Partnership with Samsung S1

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 22nd that Samsung S1 donated wall-mounted air conditioners worth approximately 30 million KRW through the ‘2021 Cool Seoul Special Fundraising’ campaign, which is being conducted to support energy-vulnerable groups in preparation for the peak summer heat.

The donation handover ceremony was held at the Seosomun Office Building of Seoul City Hall under strict quarantine measures. Attendees included Jung Soo-yong, Head of Seoul Climate and Environment Headquarters, Park Joon-sung, CFO of Samsung S1, and Kim Hyun-hoon, Chairman of the Seoul Social Welfare Council.

The donated air conditioners will be provided to 30 energy-vulnerable households, including families with children at risk of abuse. Notably, the wall-mounted air conditioners supported this time reduce power consumption by up to 77% compared to regular air conditioners, which is expected to lessen the electricity bill burden for the recipient families and reduce their carbon footprint in daily life.

Kim Hyun-hoon, Chairman of the Seoul Social Welfare Council, said, “We thank Samsung S1 for supporting energy-vulnerable groups who are especially vulnerable to this summer’s heat so they can stay healthy. We hope more citizens and companies will participate and show interest in the 2021 Cool Seoul Special Fundraising campaign running until July, and the Seoul Social Welfare Council will also pay closer attention to the energy welfare of vulnerable groups.”

Lee Dong-ryul, Director of the Seoul Environmental Policy Division, said, “This summer’s temperatures are predicted to be higher than average, making attention and support for energy-vulnerable groups more necessary than ever. We thank the executives and employees of Samsung S1 for providing cooling equipment so that neighbors in need can stay healthy during the summer, and we ask for continued interest and support from many citizens and companies.”
