[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] The Presidential Policy Planning Committee (hereinafter, the Policy Planning Committee) will hold the "4th Anniversary Commemorative Korean New Deal Listening and Empathy Gangwon Grand Debate" jointly with the Economic, Humanities and Social Research Council, Gangwon Province, and Chuncheon City over two days starting from the 22nd in Chuncheon.
According to the Policy Planning Committee on the 21st, this debate was organized to discuss and communicate with experts from various fields regarding regional opinions related to the Korean New Deal policy.
This is the third regional touring debate held this year, following Daegu-Gyeongbuk in April and Jeonbuk in May.
The event will proceed with expert presentations and discussions on topics such as the signing of the Korean New Deal agreement between the Policy Planning Committee and Gangwon Province, the launch ceremony of the Gangwon regional advisory group, green energy, peace and life economy, regional economy, and social dialogue.
Prior to the debate, Kang Hyun-soo, President of the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements, will deliver a special lecture titled "Korean New Deal and Regional Development," focusing on the significance of a balanced regional New Deal, the active role of local governments, and especially the importance of nurturing talent to lead regional development on the ground.
In the first discussion on "Korean New Deal and Green Energy," Chu Jang-min, Chair of the Sustainable Society Subcommittee of the Policy Planning Committee, will serve as the moderator, with presentations by Lee Won-hak, Senior Research Fellow at the Gangwon Research Institute, and Yang Won-mo, Director of the Advanced Industry Bureau of Gangwon Province, followed by discussions with experts in related fields.
During the first debate, experts are expected to share opinions on the necessity of establishing a foundation for future energy dominance, including the liquefied hydrogen industry, thermal energy clusters, data industry development, plasma biomass power plants, and artificial sun projects.
In the discussion on "Korean New Deal and Peace and Life Economy," Jeong Seong-heon, Co-Chair of the Korean New Deal National Advisory Group, will moderate, with presentations and discussions by Jeong Beom-jin, Vice Chairman of Peace Life Dongsan, and Park Sang-yong, Director of the Gangwon Science Culture Hub Center at the Gangwon Research Institute.
They will diagnose crisis situations and propose implementation plans for the Korean New Deal, including peaceful use of the DMZ and border areas as a means to realize a life and peace community aimed at decarbonization, de-marketization, de-capitalization, and de-division.
Next, in the "Korean New Deal and Regional Economy" discussion, Professor Lee Gi-won of Hallym University will moderate, with presentations by Professor Hong Gil-jong of Kangwon National University and Professor Jin Jong-heon of Kongju National University, followed by expert opinions.
The discussion will cover the need for new directional shifts in balanced development policies, budget and consideration factors, comparative units, as well as the necessity to reform project implementation systems and governance structures.
They will introduce the "Super-regional Development Strategy for Decentralization and Balanced National Realization" and present detailed goals, policy directions, and key policy tasks for this purpose.
The final topic, "Just Transition and Social Dialogue of Regional New Deal," will be moderated by Professor Kim Won-dong of Kangwon National University, with presentations and expert discussions by Professor Park Joon-sik of Hallym University and Park Jeong-hwan, Director of the Chuncheon Social Innovation Center.
Focusing on the bio-industry cluster case, they will propose the necessity of creating innovative economy jobs in the Chuncheon area and tasks for linking regional economy and innovative economy jobs.
Additionally, they will suggest that social innovation can contribute to achieving the two regional New Deal goals of "economic revitalization" and "social transformation" after the pandemic.
This grand debate will be conducted with a minimized number of attendees at the venue in accordance with COVID-19 quarantine measures, and the event content will be broadcast live through the Policy Planning Committee's SNS channels.
