Pohang City Expands Vaccine Inoculation... Moves to Establish Herd Immunity

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Jucheol In] Pohang City, Gyeongbuk Province, is expanding the target groups for vaccination to establish herd immunity.

On the 21st, Pohang City announced that in the third quarter, it will expand vaccine inoculations to include high school seniors, high school staff, and those aged 18 to 59.

In July, priority will be given to those aged 60 to 74 who had reservations but were not vaccinated in June. Healthcare workers under 30 and essential social workers will make advance reservations from the 28th to the 30th and receive vaccinations in early July.

High school seniors will begin their first dose in July, considering the academic schedule. Other university entrance exam candidates will have their lists secured and registered in July and will be vaccinated in August through online advance reservations.

Those aged 55 to 59 will make advance reservations on July 12, and those aged 50 to 54 on July 19, followed by vaccinations. In August, advance reservations for those aged 18 to 49 will be accepted, and vaccinations will proceed sequentially.

The city plans to complete the first dose for 352,000 people, which is 70%, by the end of September.

Jung Seonghak, Director of Safety General Affairs, said, "As the number of vaccination targets increases significantly in the third quarter, we are strengthening inspections of vaccination center facilities," adding, "We will do our utmost to ensure vaccinations are carried out safely."

Meanwhile, as of the 19th, 140,583 people (28.0%) have received their first dose. 36,308 people (7.2%) have completed their vaccinations.
