[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, attended the forum held on the 21st at the International Conference Hall of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Jung-gu, Seoul, organized by the National Council of Local Governments for Inter-Korean Exchange and Cooperation and the Foundation for Inter-Korean Economic and Cultural Cooperation.


The forum was jointly hosted by the National Council of Local Governments for Inter-Korean Exchange and Cooperation, consisting of 38 local governments nationwide, and the Foundation for Inter-Korean Economic and Cultural Cooperation, aiming to seek the resumption of the Korean Peninsula peace process.


On this day, Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, Seoul, as co-representative of the Local Governments Council, along with Kim Byung-nae, Mayor of Nam-gu, Gwangju and Secretary-General, conducted a forum on the themes of ‘Inter-Korean Agreements’ and ‘Inter-Korean Cooperation.’ Professor Lee Jung-chul of Seoul National University and Professor Park Gye-ri of the National Institute for Unification Education took the stage to present specific implementation plans needed in the current situation to resume the implementation of inter-Korean agreements.


After the presentations, a panel discussion actively took place exchanging opinions on concrete implementation measures to lead peace on the Korean Peninsula.


After the forum, the Local Governments Council officially proposed to the North the ‘Inter-Korean Art Exhibition,’ expressing the will for the prompt implementation of agreements between the inter-Korean leaders. Representative works inspired by Baekdusan and Hallasan will be exhibited starting from the 29th, touring nationwide including Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province and Nam-gu in Gwangju, and simultaneously, exhibitions will continue in northern cities.


Jung Won-oh, co-representative of the Local Governments Council (Mayor of Seongdong-gu), said, “The forum was held by the Local Governments Council for Inter-Korean Exchange and Cooperation to promptly resume the implementation of inter-Korean agreements and establish a peace process system. We will actively strive to create a new phase on the Korean Peninsula as a popular unification movement involving citizens at the local government level.”
