[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyunjung] The 'Taxpayer Rights Conference' hosted by the National Tax Service (NTS) Taxpayer Protection Committee was held on the 21st at the NTS Sejong Office, focusing on the supervision and control system of tax audit execution procedures. Eight chairpersons of the NTS and seven regional offices' committees participated in a face-to-face meeting, while 57 civilian committee members from the NTS, regional offices, and tax offices joined via online video conference.
During the meeting, based on the experiences of civilian committee members from regional offices, various discussions were held on preventing the abuse of tax audit authority, including ▲ granting taxpayers the right to express opinions when approving extensions or expansions of tax audit periods ▲ establishing appropriate duration guidelines when approving extensions of tax audit periods ▲ and improving the tax audit attendance system.
The NTS plans to review the matters discussed by the civilian committee members at this conference and reflect them in future improvements to national tax administration.
At the event, Kim Daeji, Commissioner of the NTS, stated, "We will carefully operate so that taxpayers become the center of national tax administration, and for this, I ask the committee to faithfully fulfill its role of oversight and control."
