Hong Nam-ki: "Ministry of Economy and Finance Employees Value the Spirit of 'Fairness and Equity' More Than Any Other Ministry" Hong Nam-ki, Deputy Prime Minister for Economy and Minister of Strategy and Finance Photo by Yonhap News

[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Son Seon-hee] Hong Nam-ki, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, said on the 21st, "The Ministry of Economy and Finance handles the nation's treasury affairs such as taxation, budget, national treasury, macroeconomic policy, and international finance, as well as tasks that attract significant market interest. Therefore, the spirit of fairness and equity is a more important value for Ministry of Economy and Finance employees than for any other ministry."

On the same day, Hong posted on his social media (SNS) about an event to encourage employees with outstanding work performance, stating, "As the public's expectations for fairness and equity gradually rise, I hope the fair execution of duties by the employees awarded today will serve as a model." He held an event recognizing and encouraging a total of 50 Ministry of Economy and Finance employees. Thirty practical workers at grade 4 or below received Letters of Recognition, 10 employees were awarded a Yucheok (a bronze measuring instrument about 25cm long with scales, carried by secret royal inspectors during the Joseon Dynasty along with a badge), and 10 employees were selected as outstanding civil service workers.

Hong said, "The 'Letter of Recognition,' which I hold most dear, is awarded to employees at grade 4 or below who have demonstrated outstanding capability, responsibility, exceptional passion, and dedication in excellently fulfilling their duties." He added, "I hope that when looking back on today in the future, this letter will serve as a symbol of the proud memories of being the key figures who wrote the history of 'overcoming the global pandemic' and 'recovering the Korean economy.'"

Furthermore, he said, "The award for outstanding civil service workers is a token of encouragement and gratitude to those who work quietly behind the scenes but create the bright face of the Ministry of Economy and Finance as a communication channel with the public." He added, "I extend my thanks and encouragement to the employees at the forefront of communicative administration."

Hong concluded his post with a rallying cry for the Ministry of Economy and Finance, saying, "During the meeting held after the award ceremony, we spoke candidly, sharing the hard work and concerns of our Ministry of Economy and Finance employees. I also deeply felt my regret for not being able to take good care of my family amid busy work. I reaffirm my commitment as minister to take special care so that employees can work in better environments, feel fulfillment and pride in their duties, and that this positive energy can lead to the dynamism of the Ministry of Economy and Finance."
