Contract with 4 Overseas Shipping Companies for 2 LNG Carriers, 3 LPG Carriers, and 1 VLCC
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, the intermediate holding company for shipbuilding under Hyundai Heavy Industries Group, has successfully secured orders for six vessels worth a total of 837 billion won.
Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering announced on the 21st that it recently signed construction contracts with four overseas shipping companies for two LNG carriers with a capacity of 174,000 cubic meters (㎥), three ultra-large LPG carriers with a capacity of 91,000 ㎥, and one ultra-large crude oil carrier (VLCC) with a capacity of 300,000 tons.
The LNG carriers ordered this time measure 299 meters in length, 46.4 meters in width, and 26.5 meters in height, and will be built at Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan, scheduled for sequential delivery to the shipowners by the second half of 2023.
These LNG carriers are equipped with an LNG reliquefaction system that re-liquefies boil-off gas generated during operation, significantly enhancing economic efficiency.
Orders were also received for other vessel types. The ultra-large LPG carriers ordered this time are equipped with dual-fuel propulsion engines and will be built with two vessels at Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan and one vessel at Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries in Yeongam, Jeollanam-do, with sequential delivery planned to the shipowners by the first half of 2024.
One ultra-large crude oil carrier equipped with a scrubber will be constructed at Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries in Yeongam, Jeollanam-do, and delivered to the shipowner by the second quarter of 2023.
A representative from Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering stated, "With the enforcement of the International Maritime Organization's environmental regulations approaching, inquiries about eco-friendly vessels are continuing," adding, "We will enhance customer satisfaction by building high-quality vessels based on advanced technology."
