Enforcement Rules of the Act on the Preservation and Promotion of Intangible Cultural Heritage to Take Effect on the 23rd

Designation Number Removed from Certificate of Intangible Cultural Heritage Recognition

The designation number will be removed from the certificate of recognition for holders and holder organizations of National Intangible Cultural Heritage. The Cultural Heritage Administration announced on the 21st that it will implement the revised "Enforcement Rules of the Act on the Preservation and Promotion of Intangible Cultural Heritage" starting from the 23rd.

The removal of the designation number is a measure to resolve social perceptions that rank the value of cultural heritage. The designation number of National Intangible Cultural Heritage will be omitted not only from the certificates of recognition but also from various external forms.

The revised enforcement rules also clarify the recognition targets and include the phrase "It is recognized that the individual can learn and realize according to the traditional model (典型)." Only traditional Korean paper will be used for the documents. An official stated, "This is expected to have effects such as motivation and enhancement of pride throughout the intangible cultural heritage transmission sites."
