Four Locations Including Incheon Yeongjongdo Library Selected for 'Smart K-Library' Contest

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] On the 20th, Incheon City announced that four public libraries in the region, including Yeongjong Library, were selected for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's 'Smart K-Library (Media Creation Space Establishment) Support Project.'

This project, newly initiated by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism this year, aims to expand citizens' enjoyment of media culture and strengthen creative capabilities by supporting the establishment of media content experience and production spaces within public libraries.

Incheon first had Yeongjong Library, Yulmok Library, and Bupyeong-gu Bugae Library selected, and later Subong Library was additionally selected, securing a total of approximately 98 million KRW in national funding.

Each library plans to create studios capable of media shooting and editing by the end of this year, providing spaces for citizen creation and experience, and will operate various programs such as media content production education tailored to different groups and online special lectures on reading culture events.

An official from Incheon City stated, "This public contest project is meaningful in that it reflects voices calling for changes in the functions of public libraries," adding, "By adding the roles of production and distribution to the existing functions of information possession and delivery, libraries will take a step forward as essential cultural spaces of the era."
