[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Choyoung] A premature baby who weighed only 330g at birth and was expected to have almost no chance of survival has reached their first birthday.

According to CNN on the 19th (local time), Richard Scott William Hutchinson, born at a children's hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, has been recognized by the Guinness World Records as the most premature newborn to survive.

Richard's mother, Beth Hutchinson, gave birth to Richard 131 days earlier than the due date due to complications. At that time, the hospital's neonatal team told Richard's parents, Rick and Beth Hutchinson, that the baby had a 0% chance of survival.

Unable to stay at the hospital due to COVID-19 restrictions, the couple commuted daily between home and the hospital, dedicating themselves to Richard's treatment.

After receiving treatment at the hospital for over half a year, Richard was able to be discharged in December last year and has since been living at home with his family.

Rick said to Guinness World Records, "I think Richard was able to overcome this because he knew he could rely on us," adding, "By sharing Richard's story, I hope to raise awareness about premature birth."
