[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] A male driving instructor in his 30s was arrested by the police for illegally filming women who came to practice driving after secretly installing small cameras inside the car.
On the 18th, the Gwanak Police Station in Seoul announced that they have booked and are investigating a man in his 30s, identified as Mr. A, on charges of filming using a camera under the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes.
Mr. A, who belongs to a company that assists with vehicle driving practice, is suspected of installing small cameras under the driver's seat of practice vehicles and illegally filming women over the course of four years while working in the Seoul area.
Investigations revealed that Mr. A filmed women's bare legs and underwear, and some of the recorded videos were apparently shared with acquaintances. It is reported that hundreds of students have used Mr. A’s car for lessons.
The crime was uncovered after a woman, Ms. B, who was dating Mr. A, discovered traces of a small camera installed inside the car and reported it. Ms. B found out that Mr. A had shared videos of their sexual encounters with acquaintances, and while searching the car to find Mr. A’s phone SIM card to prevent further distribution, she discovered evidence of illegal filming.
The police stated, "We have seized evidence through a search of Mr. A’s residence and other locations," but declined to disclose the specific schedule for the warrant hearing.
