Expansion and Relocation of Psychological Counseling Center to Enhance Employees' Mental Health and Workplace Safety Psychology
Increased Psychological Counselors to Expand Counseling Opportunities for POSCO, Affiliates, and Partners' Employees
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks (Director Kim Ji-yong) announced that it has expanded and relocated the psychological counseling room ‘Mindfulness Center 休’ to promote employees' mental health, relieve stress, and strengthen workplace safety psychology.
Located in Kumho-dong Human Center, the ‘Mindfulness Center 休’ was renewed and reopened to activate mental health and mindfulness programs for executives and employees in the new normal era, and to enhance safety psychology programs that identify and improve individual safety psychological tendencies.
Gwangyang Steelworks moved the psychological counseling room from the 2nd floor to the 3rd floor of the Human Center, increasing the facility size from 30 pyeong to 55 pyeong. The number of individual counseling rooms was expanded from one to two, and additional professional psychological counselors were hired, enabling personalized psychological counseling for up to two people simultaneously.
Moreover, the training room for safety psychology education was newly renovated, allowing small group counseling or collective training sessions, which is expected to meet the increasing demand for psychological counseling among executives and employees.
Since 2011, Gwangyang Steelworks has promoted employees' emotional stability through an average of about 900 various psychological counseling sessions annually. These include △Safety Psychology Programs △PTSD Psychological Counseling △Regular Safety Psychology Training Courses (I, II, III) △External-linked Mental Health Treatment △Small-scale Visiting Psychological Counseling △Special Psychological Counseling Lectures, providing psychological counseling not only for work-related concerns but also personal issues such as couples and children, extending services to employees' families as well.
*PTSD: Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. A syndrome in which a person experiences fear related to a severe incident and continues to suffer mental and physical distress related to the event even after it has passed.
With the expansion and relocation of the psychological counseling room, psychological support for employees will be strengthened, and psychological counseling for not only POSCO employees but also affiliates and partner company employees will be significantly increased, contributing greatly to accident prevention through job stress relief and safety psychology formation in the workplace.
Kim Seok-mi, a counselor in charge of psychological counseling at Gwangyang Steelworks’ Health Promotion Section, said, “I hope more executives and employees feel close to and comfortably use the psychological counseling room, and through this, have a safe and happy work life.”
