Coupang "Guarantees Job Security for Deokpyeong Logistics Center Employees... Salary Payment"

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] Coupang has announced measures such as employment guarantees and salary payments for workers at the Deokpyeong logistics center where a fire occurred.

Coupang's subsidiary, Coupang Fulfillment Service, informed employees working at the Deokpyeong logistics center in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province, where the fire accident happened, via text message on the 17th that "it has become difficult to work at the Deokpyeong logistics center for a while" and "the company will do its best to guarantee your employment stability during this period."

They added, "Salaries will be paid for the days you are unable to come to work until the company provides further notice."

Additionally, Coupang Fulfillment Service allowed temporary workers at the Deokpyeong logistics center to transfer and work at other logistics centers. Coupang had previously prohibited temporary workers from transferring between logistics centers to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Through the text message, Coupang stated, "To ensure maximum employment stability, as of now, all short-term employees designated to the Deokpyeong logistics center as their home FC (Fulfillment Center) will have their home FC designation lifted."

They continued, "Those who receive this message can choose their desired FC and apply for work there, and the new FC where they work will be designated as their home FC."

The Coupang Logistics Center branch of the Public Transport Union, National Logistics Center Branch, held a press conference in front of Coupang headquarters in Songpa-gu, Seoul, on the morning of the 18th to convey this information.

They stated, "The labor union will monitor and urge Coupang to fulfill its promises so that the content sent to workers does not remain only as text messages, and will demand more concrete measures."
