Lee Jun-seok: If Military Service Allegations Are True, It Deprived Youth Who Applied for That Process of Opportunities

[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] Kim Yong-min, Senior Supreme Council Member of the Democratic Party of Korea, urged Lee Jun-seok, the leader of the People Power Party, to "reveal the truth about the military service allegations." He criticized Lee for participating in a national project for which he was not eligible while serving as an industrial technical personnel, stating that the media's suspicions seem to have reasonable grounds.

On the 18th, Kim made these remarks during the opening speech at the Supreme Council meeting, saying, "As the party leader, Lee Jun-seok must respond to public questions."

Kim said, "If the allegations raised by the media are true, it means that Lee deprived a young person who applied for the program of their opportunity," and added, "We will wait for the truth to be revealed."

The report Kim referred to concerns the 2010 selection of Lee as a trainee in the Ministry of Knowledge Economy’s ‘SW Maestro Program’ for nurturing software talent, despite suspicions that he applied without meeting the eligibility criteria (being enrolled in a university or graduate school).

Kim questioned, "Why did Lee, who had already graduated from university in 2007 and was serving as an industrial technical personnel substitute, apply for this program?" He added, "This program provides staged payments of 1 million and 2 million won, and if he falsely applied without eligibility and even received scholarships, it could constitute not only obstruction of business but also fraud."
