"There Are Cases Where Primary Election Rules Were Applied Flexibly... A Conclusion Must Be Reached Through Consultation"
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] Kim Kyung-soo, Governor of Gyeongnam Province, referred to Lee Jae-myung, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, as 'Chinmun' (pro-Moon Jae-in), stating, "(Governor Lee) agrees with the overall policies and major directions of the current administration and is discussing how to improve the issues with alternatives such as basic income." He added, "In a broad sense, the Democratic Party's pro-Moon faction, or rather, those aligned with the Moon Jae-in administration, are competing within that process."
On the 18th, Kim appeared on KBS Radio's 'Choi Kyung-young's Strongest Current Affairs' and said, "Dividing people into pro-Moon or anti-Moon does not reflect the reality of the party at all. Shouldn't all Democratic Party members be considered pro-Moon?"
Kim met with Lee the day before and signed a policy agreement between local governments. Lee posted on Facebook, "Not just words but actions, becoming one team to overcome the immediate waves together. We will end ineffective politics with the attitude of representatives who respect the sovereignty of the people."
Regarding this, Kim explained, "The metropolitan area and non-metropolitan areas must work together; it is difficult to succeed through conflict or competition. From that perspective, we pursued the agreement with Gyeonggi Province."
He did not express a stance on any specific candidate. Kim said, "I have connections with other candidates as well. Among other candidates, many are pursuing policies aligned with regional balanced development from the perspective of metropolitan governors, so we can all work together."
On the controversy over postponing the primary, he stated, "There have been cases where primary rules were applied flexibly during the process. The core issue is which measures strengthen competitiveness in the general election and help win the presidential election."
He added, "In that regard, if candidates negotiate, they can conduct the primary while sufficiently incorporating diverse voices." He also said, "The party is discussing this, so can we just ignore it? We must discuss and reach a conclusion in some form."
