[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] The Korea Communications Agency (KCA) announced on the 18th that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Korea Institute of Intellectual Property to conduct research and establish policies on intellectual property rights in the ICT sector.


Through this agreement, the two organizations will conduct surveys and research to enhance the national intellectual property competitiveness in the ICT field and to discover new industries.


The main contents of the agreement include ▲ research on securing intellectual property rights during the promotion of R&D projects in the ICT sector ▲ research to create value for intellectual property rights in the digital media field ▲ research to secure copyrights for broadcasting content formats and creators' rights ▲ mutual exchange and cooperation through joint hosting of academic events ▲ mutual exchange and cooperation through joint hosting of academic events. Both organizations plan to carry out mutual cooperation activities such as personnel and material exchanges and jointly hosting seminars.


Jung Han-geun, President of KCA, stated, “As the importance of intellectual property rights such as content IP is emphasized with the development of ICT technology, we have been considering ways to support the protection of creators' rights,” and added, “We will continue to make efforts to create an environment that can protect ICT, broadcasting, and media intellectual property rights through this MOU.”
