[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] LG Electronics announced on the 18th that it held the '2021 Global Disabled Youth IT Challenge' online in collaboration with the Korea Disabled Rehabilitation Association to enhance the IT capabilities of youth with disabilities.
Now in its 10th year, LG Electronics explained that this competition is operated with the purpose of bridging the information gap, improving the IT capabilities of disabled youth, and providing a foundation for social advancement such as employment and higher education. This year, over 500 disabled youth from 14 countries participated online, undergoing preliminary rounds over two days starting from the 17th. Those selected will advance to the final round, which will be held over two days starting October 20.
Participants compete in various categories including 'eLife Map,' which evaluates problem-solving skills through text and image searches in specific situations; 'eTool Challenge,' which assesses proficiency in MS Office programs such as PowerPoint and Excel; 'eContent,' where participants produce and edit videos within a given time using various video programs; and 'eCreative,' which evaluates coding skills related to autonomous driving by performing various missions such as obstacle recognition in a stadium resembling real roads using car models.
Following this competition, a forum titled 'Innovation and Integration' will be held in November, focusing on the digital information gap in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution and the development direction of the Global Disabled Youth IT Challenge. The forum will include participation from several international organizations such as the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the international relief and development NGO Save the Children, discussing joint agendas and introducing related cases.
Yoon Daesik, Executive Vice President of External Cooperation at LG Electronics, said, "We will continue to fulfill our corporate social responsibility so that youth with disabilities can nurture their dreams and passion and communicate with a larger world."
