[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Two ordinances proposed by Gyeongsangnam-do Provincial Council Economic and Environmental Committee member Kim Ilsu (Geochang 2) for fostering new income crops and supporting the development of the Geochang elevator industry passed the 4th plenary session of the 386th regular meeting on the 17th.

The ordinance proposed by Councilor Kim, titled “Gyeongsangnam-do Climate Change Response New Income Crop Cultivation and Support Ordinance,” was enacted to support farmers and others in switching crops and expanding cultivation due to the spread of subtropical climates caused by climate change, and to proactively foster new income crops to increase farm income, revitalize agriculture, and enhance competitiveness.

The “Gyeongsangnam-do Elevator Industry Development and Support Ordinance” addresses the challenges faced by the elevator industry in Gyeongsangnam-do, which has been striving to establish an elevator industry base centered on the Geochang Elevator Valley but has encountered difficulties in industry development due to the absence of leading companies.

Accordingly, Councilor Kim enacted the ordinance to establish administrative and financial support grounds for fostering and supporting the elevator industry within the province to strengthen the competitiveness of local industries and promote regional economic development.

Councilor Kim said, “I am very pleased to enact an ordinance on a field I have always been interested in,” and added, “With the enactment of this ordinance, systematic cultivation and support for discovering new income crops will be possible, contributing to stable agricultural activities through increased income for local farmers. Furthermore, I expect that Geochang-gun will rise as a true mecca of the elevator industry.”
