[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] On the 17th, Lee Jun-seok, leader of the People Power Party, promised to strengthen cooperation by mentioning "cooperation among opposition parties" toward the Justice Party. He also expressed his intention to start discussions within the party regarding the Anti-Discrimination Act.
On the same day, Lee visited Yeo Young-guk, leader of the Justice Party. He told Yeo, "I believe cooperation with the Justice Party is neither unfamiliar nor difficult." Referring to shared positions between the People Power Party and the Justice Party on issues such as compensation for small business owners, he said, "Starting from these areas, through cooperation among opposition parties, we hope to ensure that small business owners and self-employed individuals receive fair compensation and that such incidents are not justified as sacrifices for the nation in the future, and that we can collaborate on this."
Lee also candidly shared his thoughts on the Anti-Discrimination Act, which is supported by the Justice Party and others. He said, "Our party (People Power Party) is currently undergoing a great transformation," and promised, "We will not hesitate to address agendas that conservative parties have previously ignored or avoided." Lee added, "The reason our party's stance on the Anti-Discrimination Act has not been finalized each time is because we were afraid to even conduct this discussion." He further stated, "Rather than debating about removing certain provisions, the discussion itself should take place, and time is needed for that."
On the same day, Yeo proposed that Lee actively engage in discussions on the Anti-Discrimination Act and suggested establishing a special committee in the National Assembly to eradicate serious industrial accidents. Yeo said, "I hope the People Power Party will be reborn not as a reactionary conservative party but as a reformist conservative party," and urged, "Please make the policy confrontation between the Justice Party and the People Power Party over the vision and challenges of Korean society a meaningful platform."
