Online education platform MKYU (MK&You University), operated by star instructor Dean Kim Mi-kyung, is taking a full-scale step to bridge the digital divide in partnership with Homeplus and Baedal Minjok.

On the 17th, MKYU announced that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for on- and offline program collaboration with Homeplus Culture Center at the MKYU studio in Mapo-gu, Seoul. Both parties agreed to exclusively open the course "Smartphone Class More Fun Than Trot" for the fall semester at Homeplus Culture Center to help bridge the digital divide among the senior demographic.

Accordingly, about 242 current students enrolled in the MKYU Digital Tutor Certification course will start teaching as instructors at Homeplus Culture Center from September. Homeplus decided to support the first teaching opportunity for many digital tutors, mostly career-interrupted women, by paying all the fall semester income generated from the course as instructor fees.

Baedal Minjok will also conduct digital education for senior business owners together with MKYU in July and August. While these senior owners are veterans in offline business, they are inexperienced online. MKYU’s certified digital tutors will assist as assistant instructors in practical training for customized online store promotion education, helping establish new job opportunities.

Meanwhile, since March, MKYU has invested over 3 billion KRW to operate the "Digital Tutor Certification Course." This course reflects the commitment of MKYU CEO Kim Mi-kyung, who believes that training professional instructors is essential to bridging the digital divide. The course features renowned instructors including Professor Cho Sung-joon from Seoul National University’s Department of Industrial Engineering, as well as representatives from academia and industry. It also provides 50 lecture guide videos and manuals that digital tutors can use in educational settings.

As a result, the number of students has exceeded 15,000 in just three months, and those selected as outstanding digital tutors have begun working as digital education instructors for Homeplus and Baedal Minjok.

MKYU CEO Kim Mi-kyung said, “Through partnerships with Homeplus and Baedal Minjok, who are leading ESG management, we have realized not only bridging the digital divide for seniors but also creating jobs for career-interrupted women. We will continue to do our best to create a happy digital world for seniors through collaboration with companies that want to work together to close the digital gap.”
