[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] Seoul Mapo Music Creation Center, operated by the Mapo Cultural Foundation, announced on the 17th that it is accepting applications for the 'Album Production Support Project,' which supports indie musicians in producing music tracks and content, until the 30th of this month.
The total support budget for this project is 10 million KRW, and six teams will be selected to receive opportunities for album production. There are no age restrictions for applicants, and all genres including pop, rock, R&B, hip-hop, trot, gugak (traditional Korean music), classical, and crossover are welcome. Applicants must be individuals or groups who have released fewer than one full-length album or two EP albums, and must submit two music tracks and one live performance video when applying.
Seoul Mapo Music Creation Center offers various differentiated benefits. The six teams selected through expert committee evaluation will be given showcase opportunities at the Mapo Art Center and Seoul Mapo Music Creation Center. Additionally, support includes ▲ full recording, mixing, and mastering services required for album production ▲ production support for profile photos, introduction videos, and live video content ▲ distribution of press releases and coordination of media interviews ▲ release of music tracks through major digital music distributors (Genie, Warner Music) and exposure on streaming platforms ▲ proposals for public auditions with major domestic indie agencies. Seoul Mapo Music Creation Center aims to serve as an incubator and gateway for indie musicians.
Song Jeyong, CEO of the Mapo Cultural Foundation, stated, “Seoul Mapo Music Creation Center plans to implement various support projects to provide practical assistance to indie musicians' creative activities. Especially, considering the difficulties musicians have faced due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, this project will additionally support not only album production but also the creation and promotion of various online content.”
The music creation platform Seoul Mapo Music Creation Center has been operated by the Mapo Cultural Foundation since July last year, carrying out various performances and support projects to foster the continuous development of Korean popular music and provide indie artists with a free creative environment.
The application period for Seoul Mapo Music Creation Center’s 'Album Production Support Project' is from June 10 to 30.
