Nexon Successfully Hosts NDC... Opens a New Chapter in Knowledge Sharing

[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] Nexon successfully held the largest knowledge-sharing conference in the gaming industry, the 'NDC (Nexon Developers Conference),' online, opening a new chapter for knowledge-sharing events.

According to Nexon on the 18th, approximately 71,100 cumulative attendees were recorded during the three-day NDC held from the 9th to the 11th. This figure far exceeded the maximum cumulative offline attendance of NDC (20,457 in 2019).

Since 2007, NDC had been held exclusively as an offline event, but this year, considering the COVID-19 pandemic situation, it was held online for the first time.

In fact, the delivery of lectures was evaluated to have improved. Presentation materials, which were previously viewed on large screens in lecture halls, were delivered clearly through high-definition videos, and the speakers' voices and explanations were conveyed more distinctly.

The representative side event of NDC, the ‘Art Exhibition,’ was also transitioned online. A total of 67 works were displayed, and notably, this exhibition included not only the artworks but also the processes of creating game videos and sounds, as well as sound producers’ audio tracks. Additionally, interview videos featuring five artists explaining the work and roles of game artists were released.

This year, NDC focused intensively on the direction games should take in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and new efforts and attempts to create more advanced games.

Kim Dae-hwon, Vice President and Head of New Development at Nexon, emphasized in his keynote speech that the boundary between hobbies and games is breaking down, leaving the topic that it is time to newly define digital play services.
