[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] The Federation of Korean Industries (FKI) held an event on the 17th to express gratitude by inviting ambassadors from countries that participated in the Korean War and descendants of veterans residing in Korea, in commemoration of the Month of Patriots and Veterans.

In his greeting, Huh Chang-soo, chairman of the FKI, emphasized, "Thanks to 1.95 million young people who fought in unknown countries at an age even younger than the current members of BTS (Bangtan Sonyeondan), today’s Korea stands as the world’s 7th largest export powerhouse and the 10th largest economy, and the FKI, the headquarters of the Korean economy, exists because of them." He added, "The entrepreneurs who founded the FKI 60 years ago with the determination to rebuild a devastated country into a prosperous one nurtured today’s global companies on the security foundation protected by the allied countries."

The 'Appreciation Ceremony for Korean War Allied Countries and Veterans’ Descendants,' held at the FKI Hall in Yeouido, Seoul, marked the start of the FKI’s 60th anniversary celebrations with the unveiling of a special photo exhibition of veterans. The FKI holds this event every June to represent Korea’s private economic sector in honoring and expressing gratitude to the allied countries.

Chairman Huh stated, "The world faces challenges such as 'smooth global vaccine supply, restoration of a free and open world economic order, and support for severely affected underdeveloped countries' for economic recovery from COVID-19," and emphasized, "Just as cooperation among countries defending freedom changed history on the Korean Peninsula 70 years ago, it is possible again if we unite our efforts."

As part of the appreciation event, the 'FKI 60th Anniversary Special Photo Exhibition of Veterans (Project Soldier KWH)' was launched. This project documents surviving veterans worldwide. Photographer Rami Hyun said, "To remember the veterans, I record their glorious images to share with the world and distribute the photos to them," adding, "I tell them that the price for these photos was already paid in full 70 years ago."

Chairman Huh presented a plaque of appreciation to photographer Rami Hyun in gratitude for her efforts. The photo exhibition is open free of charge in the lobby of the FKI Hall until the 30th of this month.
