At-Risk Youth, Creating Opportunities for Healthy Social Reintegration
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] The Gwangyang Police Station in Jeonnam (Chief Kim Jung-ho) announced on the 17th that it operated the "Youth Accompaniment Project Danbi (1st round)" on June 16.
This program was planned as an opportunity for experiential school students to learn how to overcome difficulties during adolescence through indoor rock climbing experiences with teachers and school-dedicated police officers.
'Danbi' means timely and sufficient rain, symbolizing a participatory program for the healthy social reintegration of at-risk youth, with the hope that the youth will grow to be like Danbi.
On that day, the students sweated through 'rock climbing' with the police officers and, through mentor-mentee relationships between students and police, openly shared their concerns and freely asked questions about their future careers.
One participating student said, "Today was tough but really enjoyable, and I can't imagine doing this with police officers. It was a meaningful time to reflect on my own life."
Kim Jung-ho, Chief of Gwangyang Police Station, said, "We will continue to strive so that various students, including out-of-school youth, children from vulnerable groups, and others, can actively participate in various programs through the Danbi project and grow into healthy youth."
