[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The Blue House and the ruling party sharply criticized reports from Japanese media about President Moon Jae-in's planned visit to Japan, describing them as 'domestic political maneuvers' and 'childish.'

Lee Cheol-hee, Senior Secretary for Political Affairs at the Blue House, appeared on CBS Radio's "Kim Hyun-jung's News Show" on the 17th and claimed, "Prime Minister Suga is using us for domestic political purposes." He suggested that the Japanese government is engaging in 'media play' by leaking unconfirmed information to the press.

Lee pointed out, "Former Prime Minister Abe attacked Korea during times of crisis to reverse domestic situations," and noted that Prime Minister Suga is using the same tactic.

Regarding Prime Minister Suga's cancellation of a brief meeting with our side on the sidelines of the Group of Seven (G7) summit, Lee directly criticized, "I don't know if Japan did this because of domestic political factors, but it is unpleasant that they continue to make absurd remarks and appear to belittle Korea."

Yoon Gun-young, a member of the Democratic Party and former head of the Blue House's National Planning Situation Room, also appeared on MBC Radio's "Kim Jong-bae's Focus," saying, "No matter how unreasonable and childish Japan's actions are, it might be winning to boldly and generously extend a hand first."

He suggested that President Moon's visit to Japan during the Tokyo Olympics, as leaked by the Japanese side to the media, could be one approach. However, Yoon emphasized the need for a meticulous and resolute response to Japan-related issues, including the possibility of boycotting the Tokyo Olympics.
