Global Telecom Equipment Market Nears $100 Billion This Year... Samsung's Market Share at 3%

[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Cho] The global telecommunications equipment market is expected to continue growing, reaching a total sales volume of $100 billion (approximately 111.85 trillion KRW) this year.

On the 16th (local time), IT specialized media sdxcentral reported this citing a report from the global market research firm Dell’Oro Group.

Last year, the global telecommunications equipment market was estimated to be between $90 billion and $95 billion. Dell’Oro Group noted that the overall market grew 15% year-over-year in the first quarter of this year, and considering recent trends, annual growth could reach up to 10%. This is an upward revision from the previous annual growth forecast of 5%.

Dell’Oro Group analyzed, "The transition from 4G to 5G is accelerating at an incredible pace, driving not only investments in wireless networks (RAN) but also network upgrades by operators."

Looking at the market share of the entire telecommunications equipment market in the first quarter disclosed by Dell’Oro Group, the top seven manufacturers accounted for about 80% of the total market.

China’s Huawei, which is under sanctions by the U.S. government, maintained its top position with a market share of 27%. However, compared to early 2020, its share dropped by about 5%. Nokia and Ericsson each held 16%. While there was a gap of about 5 percentage points in 2015, it disappeared in the first quarter of this year.

China’s ZTE held 9%, and Cisco 6%. Samsung Electronics ranked sixth globally as a telecommunications equipment supplier with a 3% share, surpassing Ciena. sdxcentral reported, "The RAN market has been a major driver of market share growth for both Ericsson and Samsung."
