Good News Amid Release Delay Rumors... Will the 'Galaxy S21 FE' Support 25W Fast Charging?

[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] There is a prospect that Samsung Electronics’ ‘Galaxy S21 Fan Edition (FE)’ will support 25-watt (W) fast charging.

IT specialized media GSM Arena and others reported on the 16th (local time) that the Galaxy S21 FE will support 25W fast charging. This information was found in the certification documents from China’s certification authority CCC (3C). According to the list, the Galaxy S21 FE (model number SM-G9900) offers 5G and 25W fast charging capabilities.

25W is the charging speed supported by the latest flagship models such as the ‘Galaxy S21 Ultra’ and the foldable smartphone ‘Galaxy Z Fold2,’ while the previous model ‘Galaxy S20 FE’ was provided with a 15W charger. However, it is not yet decided whether a charger will be included.

So far, Samsung Electronics’ fastest smartphone charger is 45W, which is only available for devices compatible with Super Fast Charging 2.0. Among Samsung’s smartphones, only the Galaxy Note10 Plus and Galaxy S20 Ultra models support this.

The Galaxy S21 FE, initially expected to launch in August, is now facing growing voices that its release schedule will be delayed. Samsung considered unveiling the Galaxy S21 FE at the August Unpacked event, but is leaning toward postponing the announcement and release by about one to two months to focus marketing efforts on foldable phones.

Since Samsung will not release a new Galaxy Note model in the second half of the year, emphasizing the ‘popularization of foldable phones,’ it appears the company intends not to divert attention from foldable phones to regular smartphones. Additionally, a shortage of Qualcomm’s application processors (AP) used in the Galaxy S21 FE is also reported to have partially influenced the adjustment of the release schedule.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy S21 FE is expected to feature a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED Infinity-O display supporting a 120-hertz (Hz) refresh rate, Snapdragon 888 chipset, 6 to 8 gigabytes (GB) of RAM, 128 to 256GB of storage, and a 4500 milliampere-hour (mAh) battery.
