[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] On the 16th, the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education announced that it held a ‘General High School Subject Specialization School Officer Training’ at the Yeonggwang Haeryong High School library, with the participation of about 20 officers in charge of subject specialization schools.

The training was conducted to share distinctive curricula and programs of specialized schools and to expand the role of subject hub schools in the online joint curriculum among high schools under the high school credit system.

A ‘Subject Specialization School’ is a school that operates various subjects and programs related to focused subjects so that students with aptitude and talent in specific fields can receive specialized education.

The Office of Education plans to designate three additional general high schools as subject specialization schools under the high school credit system, expanding from eight schools last year to eleven schools. In the Jeonnam region, there are subject specialization schools such as ▲Convergent Social Curriculum ▲Inquiry Convergence (Social Studies·Science) Specialized Curriculum.

In particular, subject specialization schools such as Haeryong High School offer 36 courses including travel geography and general engineering subjects, providing online real-time interactive classes to students in underserved areas of Jeonnam.

Park Kyung-hee, Director of Secondary Education, said, “The opening of courses by subject specialization schools is like a refreshing rain to small schools struggling to open courses with few students,” and urged, “Please encourage their efforts and expand their role as subject hub schools.”
