[Asia Economy Reporter Kim So-young] A woman who was being kidnapped was rescued after a passerby noticed the distress signal she sent with her fingers and immediately reported it to the police.
On the 16th, the Deokjin Police Station in Jeonbuk announced that they had arrested Mr. A (in his 20s) on charges of confinement for taking a woman he had just met to his residence.
Mr. A is suspected of taking Ms. B, a woman he met for the first time that day, to his residence in Deokjin-gu, Jeonju City, around 4 a.m. on the 13th and confining her for about 20 minutes.
According to the investigation, Mr. A reportedly covered Ms. B’s mouth, who was shouting "Help me," subdued her by force, and took her to his residence.
Thanks to a passerby’s quick report, Ms. B was rescued promptly. While being dragged by Mr. A, Ms. B made a finger signal indicating "one, one, two (112)"?the emergency number in Korea?and a passing driver, Mr. C, noticed this and immediately reported it to the police.
Mr. A, who was caught in the act, reportedly denied all charges during the police investigation.
A police official stated, "Despite the victim suffering considerable psychological trauma, Mr. A showed no signs of remorse, which led to his detention. We will conduct a thorough investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances."
