[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] The Democratic Party of Korea has decided to finalize the presidential primary schedule, which has sparked controversy due to differences among presidential candidates, by the 20th.

Ko Yong-jin, the party's chief spokesperson, stated to reporters after a closed-door Supreme Council meeting on the afternoon of the 16th, "Representative Song Young-gil listened to all the opinions of the Supreme Council members and suggested making a decision within this week if possible, without delay."

Chief Spokesperson Ko explained, "The schedule could extend until the weekend of this week, but it is necessary to resolve this controversy as early as possible."

He added, "According to the party's rules, the regulation to elect the candidate 180 days before the presidential election can be altered by a resolution of the Party Affairs Committee, but setting the agenda for the Party Affairs Committee is a decision of the Supreme Council. The primary schedule must be finalized so that the presidential planning team can operate accordingly." The issue of forming the presidential planning team will be discussed later in a formal Supreme Council meeting.
