Mokpo Old Downtown Merchants Association "Urgent Need to Attract Samhakdo Hotel"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seung-hyun Jeong] The Mokpo Old Downtown Merchants Association held a press conference and expressed support for attracting a hotel to Samhakdo.
The press conference, held at around 11 a.m. on the 16th in the parking lot in front of the Kim Dae-jung Nobel Peace Prize Memorial Hall on Samhakdo, was attended by about 100 merchants.
The old downtown merchants emphasized in a statement, "It must function as an asset for the development and sustainability of Mokpo. Attracting a hotel is essential to properly refine Samhakdo, a magnificent raw gem of Mokpo, and transform it into a local treasure."
They added, "Attracting a hotel to Samhakdo is a key part of creating core urban infrastructure in the process of building the future of Mokpo as a historic and cultural tourism city, including the four major tourism hub cities, historic and cultural space creation projects, and urban regeneration New Deal projects."
They further argued, "For a city aiming to attract 10 million tourists, the accommodation infrastructure is severely lacking, and Samhakdo is the most suitable location for facilities that can accommodate large-scale events such as major international conferences and conventions through MICE infrastructure."
In addition, they announced their intention to carry out multifaceted activities to build consensus within civil society for attracting a hotel to Samhakdo, centered on the old downtown merchants.
On this day, 18 organizations participated, including the Dongbu Market Merchants Association, Jungang Food Market Merchants Association, Hadang Rose Street Merchants Association, Bukhang Merchants Association, Mokpo Live Fish Plaza Merchants Association, Old Downtown Car-Free Street Merchants Association, Bohae Shopping Center Merchants Association, Light Street Merchants Association, Manho-dong Seafood Street Merchants Association, Manho-dong Local Merchants Association, Mokpo Seafood Cooperative, Mokpo Seafood Merchants, and Mokpo General Fisheries Market Merchants Association.
